Saturday saw Southampton go down 2-0 to newly promoted Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux and whether or not fans are with manager Mark Hughes and his comments about dominating our Midland’s opposition or not – simply put they took their chances and again we didn’t.

Earlier in the day, the Southampton social media team had done a look back in history and in hindsight, it was probably predictable that a headline from the day chosen was former striker Graziano Pelle finding the back of the net and with ongoing goalscoring issues at St Mary’s Stadium, the response by fans online was understandable.

The vast majority who took the time to respond were clear on one message – we miss the now 33-year-old Italian and we have certainly never actually replaced him and the threat he carried up front.

Having moved on at profit to Shandong Luneng back in the summer of 2016, he’s obviously remembered fondly from his short two-year spell at the club and he did return 30 goals in 80 appearances.

It wasn’t just his goalscoring record though, his big man approach up front and holding the ball up helped to get the best out of others and that’s something we are definitely lacking now as well.
