It was reported yesterday via The Telegraph that Cedric Soares was on the radar for Arsenal with Mikel Arteta keen on bolstering the Gunners defence in the final few days of the transfer window, and a deal seems to be gathering pace.
Strange move..
Hasenhuttl has publicly declared he wants to add depth in both full-back positions. So it would be odd bringing KWP in only to let Cedric go?
But, makes sense to sell him now for £6m and make a profit, than let him go for free in the summer.

Sky Sports News report that the north London club are closing in on a late move for the Portuguese international, with some reports claiming that Cedric will leave Southampton for just £5m with the right-back’s contract expiring at the end of this season.
Can Southampton start to dream of a European finish?
Yes, we can do it again
No, our luck will run out
Despite being a crucial member of Ralph Hasenhuttl’s first-team this season as stats from Transfermarkt show, a few Saints fans on social media were keen on the club cashing on Cedric whilst they still can before the defender departs this summer for free.
Here’s what some Southampton supporters had to say on Twitter about Cedric leaving this month…
No issues with this, he’s going to go anyway, so we may as well get a bit of cash for him while we still can! #saintsfc

I think it is right decision. Cash in for him now instead of the summer.

Understand the depth point but if we can unexpectedly get £6m in for someone who is leaving for free in 4 months we should

I don’t like Ralph liked his attitude from early on. Happy to have shipped him out to Inter and ‘content’ to have him back slightly improved but I think some tension remains and he’s happy with him gone so long as we have ‘someone’ in his place.

Good move IMO. Cash in, while you can for a player that doesn’t want to be here.

To be honest I think it’s a good idea. He goes for free in 5 months so cash in now…more money to spend on rebuilding in the summer. Valery is almost fit as he’s training with the first team, KWP is a good replacement JWP and Danso can also cover

Kyle Walker-Peters is expected to join the Saints from Tottenham immanently as reported by The Southern Daily Echo.
