Southampton fans have been reacting on social media to a Charlie Austin tweet.

The striker posted a GIF of a man covered in ice and snow, with three crying with laughter emoji’s, inferring he has been frozen out at St Mary’s.

The 30-year-old has been linked with a move away from the south coast and was left out of the pre-season training trip to Austria.

He was one five players left behind at Staplewood, along with Mario Lemina, Sam Gallagher, Guido Carrillo, and Jordy Clasie. They were omitted from the tour in the belief they would finalise transfers, as reported by The Daily Echo.

However, of those players, Gallagher is the only one to have left, after completing his £5.04million move to Blackburn last weekend.

Austin refused a move to Championship side West Brom on Saturday, according to The Birmingham Mail.

Ralph Hasenhuttl appears to have identified a lack of goals within the team and has attempted to address the issue with the signing of Che Adams.

Last season, The Saints only managed to score 45 league goals and Austin only contributed two of those from his 25 appearances. In contrast, Adams netted 22 Championship goals.

With the arrival of the former Birmingham striker, it would appear Austin’s days at St Mary’s are numbered. He is in the final year of his contract, so he may try and stay and look for a free transfer next summer.

And his idea of a joke has not gone down well with the Southampton fanbase…
