The transfer window has been a nervy affair for Southampton this month with the likes of Che Adams constantly linked with a move away from the club, yet another big name has been rumoured with a departure.
Everton have made Southampton’s club captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg their primary target this January.
The Danish midfielder would cost around £35M, but Everton are reluctant to pay.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports via The Daily Star that Saints captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is a top target for Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti, with Southampton valuing the Danish international at £35m if the Toffees were to come in with an offer for the Premier League midfielder.
Is this the most important transfer window in recent years?
Yes, we need fresh faces
No, we've experienced worse
With Hojbjerg being one of Ralph Hasenhuttl’s most important players and the club captain, plenty of Saints fans on social media weren’t convinced for a second that the central midfielder would be leaving for a Premier League rival, let alone Southampton accepting an offer.
Here’s what many Saints supporters had to say on Twitter about the reported interest…
No way Ralph will want to let him go, especially this month. #saintsfc

Why would he want to go to a worse team?

As stats from Transfermarkt show, Hojbjerg has only missed one Premier League game this season.
