‘Our best player’ – These Saints fans praise 21 y/o ace after scoring in continental qualifier

|

After Maya Yoshida claimed his 100th international appearance for Japan last week, Moussa Djenepo has continued the trend of impressing on the worldwide stage.

The Southampton attacker scored in Mali’s 2-0 win over Chad in the Eagles second qualifying game for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, taking Djenepo’s nation to joint-top of the group with Guinea.

Was Djenepo Southampton's signing of the summer?

Yes

No

Whilst Djenepo has only managed five Premier League appearances as stats from Transfermarkt show, the 21-year-old attacker has been one of the few bright sparks for Southampton this season, helping the Saints to their two wins of the campaign and scoring the division’s Goal of the Month award in September for his stunning solo goal against Sheffield United.

And supporters on social media were glad to see Djenepo finding his feet again after a lengthy spell out with injury.

Here’s what some Southampton fans had to say about Djenepo’s match-winning performance for Mali on Twitter…

Some supporters, though, questioned whether or not the 21-year-old attacker was playing at left-back or not for his country…

Djenepo could be back in the Southampton starting XI this weekend when the Saints off against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
