Plenty of Southampton fans have been salivating over our 3-2 victory against Arsenal back in 2001, which was the last game at our old home, The Dell.
BBC Solent Sport shared radio commentary of the afternoon’s proceedings on Twitter as club legend Matt Le Tissier was involved. Well, he had to be, didn’t he?
Hasan Kachloul scored a brace, with Ashley Cole and Freddie Ljungberg scoring for the visitors until Le Tissier struck a superb volley past a helpless Alex Manninger to secure the three points for the hosts.
Do you miss the old Dell stadium?
Yes
No
The Saints had made The Dell their home since 1898 and departed after 103 years, leaving in the best way possible.
Because of this, supporters were in awe of the iconic footage and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan described it as “Roy of the Rovers stuff”, while another said that he had “goosebumps” just listening to it.

Wow!! That has made the hairs on my arms stand up on end!! What memories of a magical end to the Dell’s history. Top top commentary from Grant Coleman (I think?!?) just topped it off.

I was 18 and a steward in Archers Road Block 5, my favourite part of the stadium, between both sets of fans, the emotion and atmosphere inside the stadium was electric 🔴⚪🔴⚪🔴
