Southampton brought an end to our run of successive losses on Saturday as we travelled to Dean Court to face Bournemouth.

Playing out a scoreless draw on the day, although the hosts had greater possession and chances overall, we got more shots on target and really should’ve taken one of those chances, but there are certainly positives to be gained from the clean sheet given our last three games saw us concede eight goals.

A small step, but a welcome one and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg continues to show his importance to us as the 23-year-old grows as a player and WhoScored gave him their star man rating for the game, and not for the first time this season.

In a marked change in form for many, Cedric Soares took second place with 7.66. Ever reliable Alex McCarthy took third place, with Wesley Hoedt noticeably in fourth and Mario Lemina taking fifth to complete the top five.

Southampton certainly need more of that kind of performance in future and we still need to discover our scoring boots but given Bournemouth’s start to the season and their form immediately prior to the October international break, take the clean sheet and move on.
