Within the last hour, Southampton have confirmed that Harrison Reed has headed out for a loan spell with Championship side Blackburn Rovers.

The 23-year-old midfielder heads out for the remainder of the 2018/19 campaign in search of greater game time and he’ll be hoping the spell proves as successful as last season’s stint with Norwich City where he made 43 appearances with a return of one goal for the Carrow Road outfit. 40 of those appearances were from the start of matches so he’s well adjusted to the Championship now.
The Ewood Park outfit have returned to the second tier this year following League One promotion last campaign.
Fingers crossed it’s another good loan spell for the Academy graduate as he continues his own development in the game, but it’s fair to say a number of fans simply don’t understand this decision from the club, believing he should be getting adequate game time with us.
Thats him & @alanshearer now. You owe us big time ????????

Why?

In fairness, cdm is the only position where we have strength and depth. Hjbg, Rom and Lem are all ahead of him. He could have challenged Cedric at RB. But if his leaving means Valery moves up the order then that has to be a good thing?

Sadly I agree with you. Thankfully Valery is still young and will probably outlast Hughes at the club. Still, Reed wasn’t going to play either, and is quite a bit older, so a loan is no bad thing

Good luck Harrison ????⚪????

Good little player. You'll enjoy him getting stuck in. Plays with his head up too. Good luck Scrappy!

He's one of two true holding mids we have. He's could happily challenge Cédric for his RB/RWB role. Sure he will develop elsewhere but there's a role for him at the club this season if he wants it.

I’m really surprised to hear this, we thought Harrison was the best player at the training session last week (I actually thought he was one of our new signings until my kids corrected me) Hope he does well & comes back to us next season

Can see Hojbjerg and Reed as future centre midfielders. Can’t help to gain valuable game time
— James Hunt (@jimmihunt36) August 27, 2018
Given how Romeu & Hojbjerg have performed so far this season, Reed should have been starting against Brighton tomorrow night.

Not a lot to add to that, he’ll gain far more from another solid tranch of 30 matches under his belt than he would five to ten appearances for us spread throughout the cups and substitute showings, so over to him to impress now and maybe force Mark Hughes into making a decision come January and enacting a recall of others don’t take their opportunities.
