Norwegian international wide midfielder Mohammed Elyounoussi has had a mixed first season at Southampton following his arrival last summer from Basel for a reported £16million fee.

The 24-year-old’s talent is obvious to all but he’s had consistency issues adjusting to the more physical Premier League campaign in this country and he’s only managed to get himself in the starting XI on eleven occasions – he has had eight more showings from the substitutes bench though and featured again in our last clash against West Ham United.

The player has been talking about his future again recently and in quotes published by outlet tv2 he sounds determined to make his time at St Mary’s Stadium a success.

Admitting he still needed to sit down and talk with Austrian manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, he felt confident that next season would see further improvements from him now that’s he’s more settled in and knows what to expect from our top flight.

“I feel it. But I haven’t had a real chat with the club, so it’s approaching that I have to do it. I am very motivated to come back here and fight for a place. It will be up to me to show that I can deliver. He has told me he doesn’t doubt my quality and skills. I might have needed more time on the physical side, it took longer than I thought. It is about keeping yourself free from injury throughout the season. He is positive about what I do in training and in my attitude.”
