Lots of Southampton fans have been pleading for the club to hire midfielder James Ward-Prowse as our next captain if Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg decides to leave the club.
The current skipper has strongly been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur for some time now and
that he could depart St Mary’s at the end of the season.
This had led to comments being made by manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, who told BBC Radio Solent that he will be stripped of the captaincy if he does not renew his contract on the South Coast.
Is James Ward-Prowse's Southampton's most important player?
Yes, we'd be lost without him
No, there are others who are more important
Harsh maybe, but fair. There has been a strong case for Ward-Prowse to given rewarded for his hard work and commitment by replacing Hojbjerg as captain. Since making his debut during the 2011/12 campaign, the 25-year-old has scored 23 goals and provided 33 assists in 269 appearances. A strong record by any means.
With this in mind, supporters were adamant that Ward-Prowse should be the man that takes the reigns from Hojbjerg and made their feelings clear on social media. One fan said that he “always plays for the badge”, while another echoed this by saying he deserves the armband “hands down”.
Never thought I’d say this but Prowsey deserves to be captain his passion, commitment and improvements deserve reward

Prowse for captain hands down! Cash in on Hojbjerg

Sell Hojbjerg as soon as possible, before he poisons the team spirit. We’ve been here before. If he doesn’t want to play for us, go. Pretty poor from him as team captain. JWP to take the armband. @southamptonfc.
