The club announced on their official website that Matt Crocker, Southampton’s former academy manager and the FA’s head of development for both the men and women’s game at a national level, has re-joined the south coast side to take up the role of Director of Football Operations.
Southampton have been enduring big changes away from the pitch, with the aforementioned Wilson departing the club to join Scottish giants Rangers in October as per the club’s official website, yet the appointment of Crocker has been seen as a big coup for the Saints, and supporters on social media were excited to see a former member of the Premier League side return and take up one of the most important roles away from the turf.
Here’s what Southampton fans had to say about Crocker joining the club on Twitter, with plenty of supporters buzzing to see an important position away from the pitch finally be filled with a man with the credentials to succeed…
Great honesty by the club to admit that the “Southampton way” has been lost recently, but this is a great chance to get back on track.

Supporters were pleased to see Crocker return to the club, but some expected the newly-appointed Director of Football Operations to have a tough few first months on the job…
Good appointment, but don’t see why he’s starting early next year instead of now. Surely it’s crucial to have his input in the winter window?
