Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl achieved his aim of keeping the club in the Premier League in the campaign of 2018/19 following his appointment as Mark Hughes replacement.
With survival achieved with a few games to spare in the campaign, the Austrian manager took advantage of that fact in the final couple of matches, making small changes to get a competitive view of a few faces or alternatively, to simply put them in the shop window for the summer and he’s made no secret of the fact we need to strengthen the group this summer.
He’s also been careful to not hype expectations about our transfer business, downplaying the idea that we will splash the cash – which I guess few fans expected in any event.
In a recent interview, Hasenhuttl made a point of saying that “…there is a lot of work to do” over the summer to get the group right and he told saintsfc.
“It’s big because there is a lot of work to do. We know this, and it is important that we change the team a little bit and bring new players in. Having a few new inputs, also for our mind, is what we will do this summer.”
Few Southampton fans will be expecting us to suddenly spend £100million, but plenty have expressed their concerns when you look at his more recent words. It should be said though, optimism levels for plenty of others are equally high.
Hope he gets the tools to work with! If he doesn’t, sure he will have no hesitation in walking

In other words, there is no money for players, so we will get rid of loads and not replace properly…. #thesouthamptonway

Who ever we get in let’s not leave it to the last minute like normal, get the players in early so we have a settled side from the start ????⚪️

Thank god , hopefully we'll see the reinvestment from over the last few years spent effectively on standout players not squad fillers

Vital to blood 3 ideally 4 new players.
Ralph wants quality. Couldn't agree more. But quality costs money. Board pay attention.#saintsfc— sfcpaulhuttl (@sfcpaul100) May 15, 2019
