“Finally” – After A Disappointing Night, Southampton Fans Wake To Good News

|

Southampton fans were waiting for one announcement on deadline day and it concerned our reported chase of FC Augsburg centre-half Kevin Danso.

The deadline window slammed shut at 5pm and in the following hours as people were frantically checking Sky to see whether the deal for the 20-year-old had gone through, people went to bed disappointed…but we awoke to good news, the young lad is ours and with the deal going through ahead of the deadline on the deal sheet basis, he now has his international clearance.

Maybe the ‘awoke’ was just me, as I slept in!

saintsfc confirmed the news a few hours ago but he won’t join the lads for training until after this weekend’s Premier League opener against Burnley.

For those who know little about the Austrian, he came through MK Dons’ youth setup before making the switch to Augsburg in 2014, and having made his debut for them back in March 2017, he now has 45 appearances to his name, also earning six caps for Austria’s senior side.

Danso has clearly done his homework.

“I’m delighted to join a club that has produced a lot of great players. I’m ready for the challenge and really excited to get started, and also to get to know the fans and the rest of the lads too. I’m looking forward to working with such a great coach in Ralph Hasenhüttl as well. He has produced a lot of young players and showed a huge amount of belief in them, so I hope I can be another one who can benefit from him. It’s a great opportunity for me to show what I can do. Southampton is a great club, the manager is a great coach, and I’m really looking forward to the opportunity.”

Hasenhuttl described it as an ‘excellent way’ for us to have finished our summer business, so he’s obviously expecting good things from him.

The deal is a loan, with an ‘exclusive’ (whatever that means) option to buy next summer.
