With plenty of hope at Southampton for manager Ralph Hasenhuttl’s first full season in charge given the improvements we saw in the second half of last season, fans haven’t had an awful lot to shout about really and the wheels significantly came off the Hasenhuttl Express in last Friday’s clash with Leicester City.
The midweek action had us travel to Manchester City in the EFL Cup fourth round, and there were some small positives to take from the 3-1 defeat when it came to the way the team dug in.
The performance of Sofiane Boufal was mixed really, but for a number of fans he showed enough to warrant a spot alongside Nathan Redmond and Che Adams/Danny Ings as we look for more attacking intent in the future, and his second half substitution certainly confused fans given the relative performances of others that were still on the pitch at that stage.
Boufal??? Should've taken off ward orowse

Much better in the second half, boufal should’ve stayed on imo. The trio of him, Redmond and Adams needs to be seen more #SaintsFC

Only Boufal can give us at least a bit of a cheer! Oh so he's off! ???? pic.twitter.com/0LwtIP4Q4b
