Rickie Lambert said before the derby via Southampton’s official Twitter account that the city will remember you if you get a win over Portsmouth, and Danny Ings has seemingly become the most popular man in town.

The former Liverpool striker hit a brace in the Saints’ 4-0 win over Portsmouth in the first South Coast Derby in nearly seven years, handing Southampton the bragging rights over their long-hated rivals until their next encounter in the future.
After such a performance and in line with Lambert’s words, many Southampton fans were jubilant over Ings’ impact following the full-time whistle as fans took to social media to praise their newfound hero.
