There’s no denying it was a disappointing season for Charlie Austin at Southampton in the campaign of 2018/19 but he set tongues wagging on Saturday night as Tottenham Hotspur faced Liverpool in the Champions League Final out in Madrid.

The 29-year-old was restricted to only 12 starting appearances across the campaign, with a further 15 showings from the substitutes bench and he clearly fell out of favour with new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, as following his arrival he saw game time grow more limited.

With talk in January suggesting he might be off, a deal never actually came to fruition but as we look to the summer ahead, our Austrian gaffer has made no secret about the striker needing to find alternative employment and with only three goals and two assists last year, it’s no great surprise as to why.

With an impassioned interview earlier in the season, the striker seriously misjudged the mood in the fanbase as he took to social media at the weekend to cheer Liverpool on.

With recent history with Liverpool, it’s understandable as to why some saw ‘red’ with their reactions even if to be honest, I’m not sure it actually bothers me.

  • Who cares? Football players are allowed to support whomever they want. This site constantly publishes articles based on the views of a few dssgruntled/over-sensitive fans. This is classic click bait journalism that does the club no good.

    • As does every other site out there and you don’t understand clickbait, but I thought it was worth highlighting to say some fans don’t care about that sort of thing.
