Southampton fell to their first defeat in four games after their 2-1 loss away to Newcastle yesterday afternoon.
The Saints were in good form coming into this fixture having drawn away to Arsenal and then went on to beat Watford and Norwich to close the gap on 17th place.
Ralph Hasenhüttl’s are still just one point from safety now, but they will be disappointed not to come away from St James’ Park with at least a point. Speaking after the match, Cedric Soares believed Southampton deserved all three points, a view which a lot of Saints fans didn’t agree with.
We didn’t deserve anything because once again we created chances but can’t concentrate and defend as a side for 90 mins

We are conceding many “bad” goals . The rest of the league did not to do anything special to score against Southampton. That’s a shame

Well if you stop leaking goals left, right and centre then maybe we would get more

No, no – you don’t deserve points by thinking you played well, you deserve points because you’ve played well and have managed the game at the late stages – once again you have failed to do this and therefore you got what you deserved – nothing.

You always get what you deserve.

Saints fans were more honest in their assessment on the outcome of the game than Cedric, clearly believing their team’s performance didn’t deserve anything from the game. These fans also questioned Cedric’s commitment to the club.
Cedric doesn’t care about the club only about getting paid. Stick him in the u23s and let valery play every week, only way he’ll improve. I hope we sell cedric on Jan 1st.

The loss to Newcastle was another wasted opportunity for Southampton and the fans will be hoping this result doesn’t disrupt their much-improved performances of late
