The Southampton loanee scored the first goal of the evening for Chris Armes’ side in their MLS play-off match against the Philadelphia Union, the opening strike in what was to be an entertaining 4-3 defeat for the Red Bulls.
Despite scoring the opening goal, Sims was forced off shortly after his first-ever goal for the New Jersey-based side as the winger collided with Union goalkeeper and Jamaica international Andre Blake 28 minutes in, bringing the Saints youngsters’ evening to an end.
Yet despite this short performance, Sims had done enough to impress Southampton supporters on social media as fans were quick to praise the 22-year-old winger.
Here’s what some Southampton fans had to say about Sims’ opener for the New York Red Bulls…

Defeat now means the Red Bulls are out of the 2019 MLS play-offs, and that Sims will return to Southampton in the coming weeks.
